Massive German flood damage to railways

Germany’s national railway company has estimated that last week’s floods caused 1.3 billion euros in damage to its network.
Authorities are still working out the total cost of the floods, which caused the worst damage in western Germany and eastern Belgium.
German railway company Deutsche said more than 50 bridges, 180 level crossings, nearly 40 signal boxes, more than 1,000 electric and signal poles, as well as power and lighting systems and station elevators, were damaged by the floods.
