Message from Syria’s Grand Mufti to the Syrian People

Syria’s Grand Mufti, Osama Al-Rifai, delivered a televised message to the Syrian people, urging unity and the rejection of discord. He warned against falling into the trap of revenge and division, emphasizing the importance of preserving the country’s unity and the safety of its citizens.
In his message, Al-Rifai said:
“O people of Syria, from all ethnicities, sects, and affiliations, God has blessed us with a homeland that brings us together and protects our unity. Do not let discord divide you; its spark may be small, but it quickly burns everything in its path, leaving behind only destruction and loss for all.”
Commenting on the ongoing confrontations in Ashrafiyat Sahnaya, Al-Rifai called for restraint and urged people not to respond to calls for violence and revenge. He warned of the dangers posed by voices attempting to incite sedition and divide the people.
Al-Rifai stressed that Syrians have lived together in love and harmony for decades, and that the duty now is to preserve these values and avoid any escalation that could threaten stability:
“Do not let discord rob you of the blessing of coexistence and unity that has brought you together. When sedition erupts, there are no winners—only collective loss across all sects and beliefs.”
He concluded his message by calling for self-control and a return to reason and justice, noting that patience during hardship is the key to overcoming it. He urged the Syrian people to act with wisdom and clarity to restore peace and stability in Syria.
