NATO does not accept some of Russia’s security proposals

NATO announced its disapproval of some of Russia’s proposals for security assurances to be considered between NATO and Russia in Brussels on Wednesday.
“The Russian proposals on security assurances contain clauses that are contrary to the basic principles and values of NATO,” said Mircha Jiwana, Deputy Secretary-General of NATO.
He added: “Such attempts by third States to interfere in the foreign and security policies of sovereign States cannot be accepted.”
Russia demands that its border States not join NATO, while NATO believes that Moscow has no right to interfere with the decisions of sovereign States.
