Nowruz Ignites Raqqa: Vibrant Atmosphere and Celebrations Full of Life!

On March 14, 2025, in Raqqa, northeastern Syria, preparations and celebrations began for the Nowruz holiday, which falls on March 21 of each year. The “Pulse of the Street” camera of the profilenews channel captured the festive and cultural atmosphere that reflects the spirit of this holiday and its beautiful meanings.

The activities kicked off with the lighting of the symbolic Nowruz torch, which signifies light, peace, and tolerance, symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness and the renewal of life with the beginning of spring. The city witnessed a large gathering of residents dressed in colorful traditional attire, celebrating this significant cultural occasion.

These celebrations, which last throughout the week leading up to the holiday, include artistic performances and traditional dances in public spaces, as well as cleaning and arranging homes in preparation for receiving guests. Visits and congratulations are exchanged between family members and neighbors. Special foods for this occasion are also prepared, including the traditional “Haft-Sin” table in Persian culture, which consists of seven items starting with the letter ‘S,’ such as apples, garlic, and sumac.

It is worth noting that Nowruz means “New Day” in Persian and Kurdish and is celebrated across a wide range of regions in Syria, Iraq, Iran, and Turkey, particularly among Kurds and various local communities, carrying with it the meanings of peace, love, tolerance, and renewal.
