Officially: Dissolution of the National Coalition and Negotiation Committee After Their Representatives Meet with Shara, Files Handed Over to Damascus

Syrian transitional president Ahmad al-Shara met on Tuesday with delegations from the Negotiation Committee and the National Coalition at the People’s Palace in Damascus, where they discussed the future of the institutions that emerged during the Syrian revolution. According to a presidential statement, the state took over all files related to both entities and their affiliated institutions, in line with the Declaration of Victory of the Revolution, which called for the dissolution of these bodies and their integration into the state’s institutions.

During the meeting, al-Shara emphasized the role these institutions played in confronting the previous regime and strengthening the resilience of the Syrian people, commending the efforts of those involved over the past 14 years. The attendees reaffirmed their support for the transitional president’s efforts to reunite the country, form a Syrian army on national foundations, and pave the way for free elections after drafting a new constitution.

The meeting was attended by National Coalition President Hadi al-Bahra, Head of the Negotiation Committee Badr Jamous, members of the political body of the coalition, and head of the Syrian Tribes and Clans Council, Jihad al-Merai. Media outlets reported that the meeting was marked by positive atmosphere, concluding with the handover of political and civilian files to the Damascus authorities, and was followed by a dinner hosted by the transitional president, a first for his meetings with all the delegations he has met with.
