The Russian presidency said this morning that Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad, who arrived in the Russian capital on an unannounced visit.
According to what was announced by the Russian official statement, as well as by the Syrian official news agency, a bilateral meeting was held between the two presidents, and another expanded meeting was attended by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Miqdad.
According to the Kremlin, Putin stressed that “the Syrian government controls more than 90% of the area of ​​Syria, and the problem with Syria is the illegal foreign forces that prevent the country’s unification.”
During the meeting, Putin indicated that the Syrian president is doing a lot to establish a dialogue with political opponents. Putin also congratulated Assad on the good results of the presidential elections, and explained that these results “confirm that the Syrians trust you, and despite all the difficulties and tragedies experienced in previous years, they They are counting on you in the process of returning to normal life.
The economic sanctions imposed on Syria and the mechanism of their treatment were also discussed, in addition to the Syrian contribution to the reconstruction and rehabilitation of electricity stations damaged due to the war.
