Former U.S. President Donald Trump delivered a strongly worded message to the American public on Memorial Day, using the occasion to sharply criticize his political rivals, including President Joe Biden and several federal judges. Trump accused them of contributing to the deterioration of national security and immigration policy in the United States.

In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump described his opponents as “scum,” accusing them of attempting to dismantle the country over the past four years through what he referred to as “radical leftist policies.” According to Trump, these policies have facilitated the entry of millions of undocumented immigrants, including what he described as “criminals and mentally unstable individuals,” through what he characterized as “open and uncontrolled borders.”
Criticism Directed at the Judiciary
Trump also targeted several federal judges, alleging that they have obstructed efforts to deport individuals deemed dangerous and have issued rulings that, in his view, enable criminal elements to remain in the U.S. He asserted that some of these judges are “driven by dangerous ideologies that jeopardize national security,” and expressed hope that the U.S. Supreme Court would intervene to halt what he described as unpatriotic judicial decisions.
Legal Context
Trump’s comments followed a ruling by U.S. District Judge Brian Murphy, who ordered authorities to allow the return of a previously deported migrant to the United States. Judge Murphy determined that the deportation process had failed to meet basic due process standards.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) criticized the ruling, describing Judge Murphy as a judicial activist. DHS noted that the deported migrant had previously been granted protection from removal to Guatemala, but was subsequently transferred to Mexico as a “safe third country” while his asylum claim was under review.
