Political Earthquake in Iran: Zarif Resigns, Parliament Dismisses Economy Minister Amid Severe Crisis!

The Iranian news agency “Fars” reported on Sunday evening that Mohammad Javad Zarif has resigned from his position as Vice President for Strategic Affairs, marking a significant political development in Iran.

According to agency sources, the resignation came after the Iranian parliament withdrew confidence from Economy Minister Abdolnaser Hemmati. However, Zarif’s resignation has not yet been officially accepted.

The report highlighted that Zarif’s presence in the government had been legally controversial. Iranian law prohibits officials or their family members from holding dual citizenship for sensitive positions, a rule that applies to Zarif as two of his children hold American citizenship.

Earlier today, the Iranian parliament voted to dismiss Economy Minister Abdolnaser Hemmati following an extensive questioning session. The decision was driven by the severe economic downturn and the sharp decline of the Iranian rial. A total of 182 MPs voted in favor of his dismissal, while 89 opposed it, and one abstained.

These developments come amid divisions within Iran’s political circles regarding the timing of these measures, as the country continues to face economic crises and mounting internal and external pressures.
