Beirut – profilenews | Lebanese President Michel Aoun welcomed Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi this morning at Baabda Palace. The meeting is expected to address regional developments and bilateral relations between Lebanon and Iran.
This visit comes as part of Iran’s official participation in the funeral of Hassan Nasrallah and Hachem Safi al-Din, with high-level diplomatic and political representatives from various countries in attendance.
In a statement made during the visit, President Aoun said that Lebanon has paid a heavy price for the Palestinian cause and has grown weary of foreign wars fought on its land. He stressed that the unity of the Lebanese people is the best response to any loss or aggression. He also expressed Lebanon’s support for the position taken at the Arab Summit in Riyadh regarding the two-state solution to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
In turn, Qalibaf announced Iran’s readiness to collaborate with Arab and Islamic countries in the reconstruction of Lebanon, reaffirming Iran’s support for any decision made by the Lebanese people, free from external interference in their affairs. He expressed Iran’s desire to see Lebanon as a stable, secure, and prosperous country.
