Paris Saint-Germain have advanced to the semi-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, currently held in the United States, following a 2-0 win over Bayern Munich. The quarter-final clash took place on Saturday evening at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
The goals for the French side were scored by Désiré Doué in the 78th minute and Ousmane Dembélé in the sixth minute of added time (90+6), confirming their qualification despite being two men down.
The match saw dramatic moments, as Paris Saint-Germain were reduced to nine players following the dismissals of Ecuadorian defender Willian Pacho in the 82nd minute and substitute Lucas Hernandez in the 90+2 minute.
On the other hand, Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala suffered a significant injury late in the first half, forcing him off the pitch in the 45+3 minute — a major setback for the German side.
With this result, UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain will face Spanish side Real Madrid in the semi-finals. Real Madrid secured their place after a 3-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund, with goals from Gonzalo García and Fran García in the 10th and 20th minutes respectively, followed by a third from Kylian Mbappé in the 90+4 minute. Dortmund responded with goals from Maximilian Beier in the 90+2 minute and Serhou Guirassy from the penalty spot in the 90+8 minute.
The match also witnessed a red card for Real Madrid defender Dean Huijsen.
Quarter-final action began on Friday, with Brazil’s Fluminense defeating Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal 2-1 to become the first team to reach the semi-finals. They were followed by Chelsea, who overcame Palmeiras with the same scoreline.
The semi-final fixtures are scheduled for Monday, July 8, with Fluminense facing Chelsea and Real Madrid taking on Paris Saint-Germain in a highly anticipated encounter.
