Moscow Comments on Resolution 1701 and Sends Message to Hezbollah

Russian Ambassador in Beirut: On the Implementation of Resolution 1701
Russian Ambassador to Lebanon Alexander Rudakov said on Saturday that there is effective and constructive cooperation between Russia and Lebanon in multiple international forums, including the United Nations.
He emphasized that the key issue lies in implementing disarmament amid ongoing Israeli airstrikes, stressing that strict adherence to peace agreements between Israel and Lebanon, based on Resolution 1701, is the primary way to address this complex matter.
Rudakov noted that Resolution 1701 enjoys support from all Lebanese factions, including Hezbollah, which must continue its transition from a military-oriented movement to a purely political force. He also reaffirmed Russia’s continued support for Lebanon, citing assistance provided during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Beirut port explosion, and support for the Lebanese Armed Forces.

The Russian ambassador reaffirmed his country’s position on enabling Lebanon to independently determine its national policies free from external interference. He also highlighted Russia’s role in defeating ISIS in Syria and preventing terrorist groups from advancing toward Lebanese territory.
