Rubio: Disarming Hamas Key to Peace in Gaza as US Pushes for Regional Stability

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says disarming Hamas is essential for peace in Gaza, while outlining American positions on Lebanon, Sudan, Ukraine, and Venezuela.

Disarming Hamas Key to Peace in Gaza

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Friday that achieving peace in Gaza is impossible without disarming Hamas, warning that if the group is able to threaten or attack Israel in the future, lasting peace will not be achievable.

Speaking to reporters during a press conference, Rubio stressed that the international community still has significant work to do to preserve the Gaza agreement and ensure its continuation.

Talks on an International Stabilization Force

Rubio revealed that the United States has been in contact with several countries to discuss the possible formation of an international stabilization force in Gaza. The proposed force would aim to support security on the ground and prevent renewed escalation.

He emphasized that such efforts are part of broader diplomatic initiatives to maintain calm and support political solutions in the region.

Lebanon: Strong Government and Hezbollah Disarmament

On Lebanon, Rubio expressed hope that ongoing talks between Lebanese authorities and Israel would lead to the formation of a strong Lebanese government and the disarmament of Hezbollah.

“We hope these discussions will result in clear frameworks and a path forward that prevents further escalation,” Rubio said, highlighting Washington’s focus on regional stability.

Sudan: Ceasefire Before the New Year

Addressing the situation in Sudan, Rubio stated that the immediate US objective is to halt hostilities before the end of the year, amid continued fighting and worsening humanitarian conditions.

Diplomatic Progress on Ukraine

Regarding Ukraine, Rubio said diplomatic efforts to end the war have made progress but cautioned that the process remains long and complex, requiring continued coordination.

He emphasized that ongoing talks are not intended to impose an agreement on any party but to reach a solution acceptable to all sides and capable of delivering sustainable peace.

Putin’s Remarks and Frozen Assets Warning

Rubio’s comments coincided with statements by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who said Russia is “ready and willing” to end the conflict in Ukraine peacefully, based on principles outlined by Moscow in 2024.

Putin also warned of severe consequences if frozen Russian assets are used to support Ukraine, calling such actions equivalent to “theft” and cautioning that the repercussions would be serious.

Venezuela: Military Option Still on the Table

Rubio also addressed Venezuela, saying the current situation there is “unacceptable and must change.”

His remarks followed comments by US President Donald Trump, who told NBC News that he does not rule out the possibility of military action against Venezuela, stating that the option remains on the table.
