Russia is defending itself in its own way

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova revealed that the possible supply of long-range missiles to Ukraine by the United States would make Washington a direct party to the conflict, in which case Moscow reserves the right to defend its territory by all available means.

As Zakharova said, in a briefing: “The United States and its allies, who supply the Kyiv regime with weapons, have in fact become accomplices in war crimes. If Washington decides to supply Kyiv with long-range missiles, it will cross the red line and become a direct party to the conflict. We reserve the right to defend our lands with all the means available to us.”

According to her, “the possible supply of missile weapons to the Kyiv regime is comparable to the situation in which American-made ground-based missiles are deployed in European countries, which were previously prohibited by the Intermediate-Range Missile Treaty, capable of hitting targets on Russian territory.”

Zakharova added: “In such a scenario, we will have to respond appropriately, in my opinion, this is obvious. Such an irresponsible step will lead to a significant destabilization, contribute to an increase in tension and provoke an arms race, we are aware, that Washington has taken a destabilizing path. The situation in the world, we see it in different parts of the world – in Asia, Eurasia, Europe and Africa.”

Russia has previously sent a note to NATO countries over the supply of arms to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov indicated that any shipment containing weapons to Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia.
