Russia-NATO Clash: Moscow Warns of Escalating European Moves

Russia-NATO Clash: European Moves to Block Russian-American Rapprochement
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov warned of a potential clash between Russia and NATO due to European Union actions, even amid the recent balanced U.S. policy toward Moscow.
During a speech at the “Valdai International Discussion Club” session, Ryabkov emphasized that Russia is exercising maximum restraint and sending warning signals in response to what he described as NATO’s and European countries’ provocative measures.

Ryabkov also pointed to the increased nuclear coordination between France and the United Kingdom, noting that Moscow is counting on avoiding negative scenarios following the expiration of the New START Treaty. He added that Russian leadership is working on setting response criteria to threats posed by the West’s deployment of medium- and short-range missiles.

He added that a complicating factor in the current situation is the EU’s insistence on preventing Russian-American rapprochement to resolve the Ukraine conflict and to block any improvement in bilateral relations between Moscow and Washington.
