Russia and Syria at One Table: Enduring Relations Beyond Regime Change
Russia | Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa will discuss the issue of Russian bases in Syria during their talks in Moscow, noting that the topic is expected to be raised in some form during the official meeting between the two leaders.
Peskov described the meeting as a significant day in the course of bilateral relations, marking the first face-to-face contact at the highest level since the change of leadership in Syria. He added that no joint press conference is planned following the talks.
Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa arrived in Moscow, on an official visit to hold talks with President Putin. According to Syria’s official news agency SANA, the discussions will address regional and international developments and explore ways to enhance bilateral cooperation. Al-Sharaa is also expected to meet with members of the Syrian community residing in Russia.
