The Russian ruble recorded an increase against the U.S. dollar in trading on Tuesday, March 18, for the first time since June 19 of last year, 2024.
The value of the U.S. dollar fell below 81 rubles, while the MOEX Moscow Stock Exchange index, which measures ruble-denominated stocks, rose to 3,254.67 points, a 0.26% increase. Meanwhile, the RTS index rose by 0.29% to approximately 1,216 points, according to specialized Russian media outlets.
Experts suggest that the recovery of the Russian currency is likely due to signs that Washington and Moscow are nearing an agreement to end the war in Ukraine.
