Samih Shakir Returns to Jaramana After 14 Years of Absence

A ProfileNews reporter attended the concert held by Syrian artist Samih Shakir at the Social Gathering Amphitheater in Jaramana, where he reunited with his audience for the first time in 14 years, amidst a massive and enthusiastic reception.

The venue was packed with crowds who welcomed him with his famous song “Law Yawm Tanaadina” (“If Only One Day You Called Us”), creating a beautiful artistic scene that reflected the audience’s longing for him. Shakir began the concert emotionally, saying, “Words fail me to speak, the beauty of your reception has overwhelmed me.” He pointed out that Jaramana was part of his early youth, and he has many memories and friendships tied to the city.

Shakir also spoke about the former Syrian regime, stating that there are no words in the world to describe its crimes and tyranny. He emphasized that the Syrian people, who sacrificed so much and were able to overcome those harsh years, are truly a great people. He noted that although his absence had been long in terms of distance, he lived through all the pain that Syria experienced during that time.

Shakir welcomed his friends who had traveled from Douma in the Damascus countryside, as well as others from Idlib and its countryside, to attend his concert. He reiterated that the Syrian people are one, regardless of their backgrounds or components.

During the concert, Shakir performed some of his most famous revolutionary songs, such as “Ya Sajjani”, “Wa Hafy Aalsafina”, and concluded the event by singing “Ya Hayf”, a song requested by the audience, who sang along with him amid applause and celebratory ululations that filled the venue.

The concert did not end with Shakir’s departure, as the crowd continued to dance to his songs long after he left the stage.

It is worth mentioning that Samih Shakir, born in 1957, is a Syrian artist known for his revolutionary and patriotic songs, which he both wrote and composed. He remained independent throughout his career, never joining any political party.

Some of his most famous songs include “Ya Al-Joulan”, “Rajaa’ Al-Khayr”, “Beirut Khaimetna”, and “Ya Hayf”, which has become one of his most viewed songs on YouTube since the start of the Syrian protests in 2011 in Daraa, in addition to many other revolutionary and patriotic songs.
