Saudi Foreign Ministry Statement on Iran-U.S. Talks in Oman
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed Oman’s hosting of the indirect talks held on Saturday, April 12, between Iran and the United States regarding the nuclear deal. The ministry emphasized Saudi Arabia’s support for efforts to activate dialogue as a means to resolve regional and international disputes.
In an official statement, the Saudi Foreign Ministry expressed hope that the talks’ outcomes would contribute to enhancing security, stability, and peace in the region and globally, amid current challenges.
The negotiations, hosted in Muscat, Oman, involved Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and U.S. President Donald Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, discussing ways to de-escalate and reach an understanding on Iran’s nuclear program.
The White House confirmed that the talks were “very positive and constructive,” with Witkoff informing his Iranian counterpart that he had received direct instructions from President Trump to resolve the outstanding issues. Witkoff later stated he would return to Washington to brief Trump on the talks’ results.
For his part, Minister Abbas Araqchi noted that the meeting lasted about two and a half hours and took place in a “calm atmosphere, free from escalation,” adding that a second round of talks could take place next Saturday. He further mentioned that both sides expressed a desire to shorten the negotiation period, considering signs of positive intentions from the U.S. side, stressing that the next round would aim to define the negotiation framework and timetable.
