South Korea: Finance Minister Takes Over as Acting President

South Korea’s Finance Minister, Choi Sang-mok, has assumed the role of Acting President after the National Assembly dismissed interim President Han Duck-soo in a plenary session on Friday.
Choi stated that the government will work hard to “achieve stability in the affairs of the state” during a time of “political turmoil” caused by President Yoon Suk-yeol’s failed attempt to impose martial law.
Han had taken over as Acting President on December 14 following the dismissal of Yoon, who had tried to implement martial law on December 3, sparking widespread controversy in parliament.
