Southern Lebanon… Tension in Yater After UNIFIL Force Was Detained by Locals
The town of Yater in Southern Lebanon witnessed an altercation on Sunday, May 11, between local residents and a patrol from the Italian contingent of UNIFIL, after it entered a residential area without the accompaniment of the Lebanese Army.
Local sources reported that a resident of the town blocked the road to his house with his car, preventing the patrol from passing after it entered the premises without prior coordination, sparking protests from the locals.
This incident follows a similar one that occurred weeks earlier in the town of Bint Jbeil, where locals objected to the entry of a similar patrol without the support of the Lebanese Army.
Furthermore, last month, Yater experienced a period of tension, including the evacuation of several homes and the deployment of both the Lebanese Army and UNIFIL forces, following Israeli threats accompanied by a warning airstrike targeting the vicinity of homes in the area.
