Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra indicated that Syria prefers not to raise the issue of its return to the Arab League during the Algiers summit scheduled for next November.
The Algerian minister revealed in a statement that, on Sunday, he had made a phone call with his Syrian counterpart, Faisal Miqdad,
The statement said: “Among the issues discussed on this occasion is the issue of the Syrian Arab Republic’s relationship with the League of Arab States.”
The Algerian Foreign Minister also explained that Miqdad confirmed his country’s lack of preference for raising the issue of resuming its seat in the Arab League during the November summit.
Miqdad attributed this to Damascus’ keenness to contribute to uniting the Arab world and ranks in facing the challenges imposed by the current situation at the regional and international levels.
Algeria also confirmed, last month, its support for Syria’s return to occupy its seat in the League, and that it would not be at the expense of the Arab consensus, which it wants to achieve at the summit it is hosting next November.
