Ankara Affirms Support for Syria’s Unity as Damascus Sets Date for Electricity Link with Turkey
Following its regular meeting at the Presidential Complex chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the Turkish National Security Council emphasized the necessity of eliminating any attempts that threaten Syria’s territorial integrity or destabilize the country. The council called for a unified international stance against any activity that could undermine Syria’s sovereignty or push it toward instability.
The council confirmed Ankara’s continued support for the Syrian government’s efforts to consolidate stability across the entire Syrian territory, welcoming decisions to ease economic sanctions that have burdened the Syrian population. It also urged international parties to fulfill their responsibilities regarding Israeli policies affecting Palestine, Lebanon, and Yemen.
Separately, Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar announced that Turkey will supply damascuss with 1,000 megawatts of electricity and 6 million cubic meters of natural gas daily, under a joint cooperation agreement to develop energy infrastructure. Syrian Energy Minister Mohammed Al-Bisher noted that the 400-kilovolt electricity transmission line linking the two countries is expected to become operational by the end of 2025.
