Texas Floods: Death Toll Rises to 67, Including 21 Children, Amid Devastating Floods

The tragedy continues to unfold as the death toll from severe flooding in Texas has reached 67, including 21 children, while rescue teams continue searching for dozens of missing persons, particularly after floodwaters swept through a children’s summer camp.

Local authorities reported that Kerr County, located in the Texas Hill Country region, was the hardest hit, with 59 deaths recorded. Kerr County Sheriff Larry Litha confirmed that among the victims were children trapped by floodwaters in various locations, including a summer camp where search efforts are ongoing for 27 missing girls.

Heavy rainfall fell within a few hours, reaching amounts typically seen over several months, causing sudden water level rises and sweeping away everything in its path.

On Sunday, U.S. President Donald Trump declared a “major disaster” in Texas, stating on his platform Truth Social that the floods caused severe damage and loss of life, and confirmed that the federal government is coordinating with state authorities to provide necessary assistance.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has begun deploying resources and equipment to ground rescue teams, emphasizing that support will continue until the crisis is overcome.

Meanwhile, over 850 people have been rescued in the past two days through joint efforts involving helicopters, boats, and drones to reach affected areas.

As Texas continues to recover, Tropical Storm Chantal struck South Carolina on the East Coast, with warnings issued about the risk of flash floods similar to those experienced in Texas.
