The 77th Cannes Film Festival kicks off

A new journey in the world of world cinema began today with the opening of the 77th Cannes Film Festival, which will run from May 14 to May 25, in the presence of an elite group of film makers in the world, including directors, actors and producers.
With a slogan that carries a lot of symbolism in a poetic visual language, 22 films from the most important directors will compete in this edition, most notably Francis Ford Coppola, who returns with his controversial film “Megalopolis.” The events will also witness the awarding of the honorary Palme d’Or to a number of cinema pioneers around the world, such as star Meryl Streep and director George Lucas.
This edition records a distinguished Arab presence, with the first official participation of Saudi cinema with the film “Noura” within the “Un Certain Regard” competition.
The Cannes Film Festival administration put the final touches on the activities by raising the festival logo, through an image from the movie Rhapsody in August, by Japanese director Akira Kurosawa.
The opening night of the festival will witness the screening of “Le Deuxième Acte” or The Second Act by director Quentin Dupieux, which is the latest comedy film by the prolific French director and screenwriter. It is the film that is being screened out of competition, and its events revolve around Florence, who wants to introduce the man she loves madly, called… David to her father, but in reality David is not attracted to Florence, and wants to make her fall in love with his friend Willie.
