The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced a statement regarding the detention of an Emirati ship off the coast of Hodeidah Governorate, in western Yemen.
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the detention of the Emirati ship, calling for the immediate release of the ship and its crew.
She stressed Qatar’s total rejection of actions that would impede the movement of ships and tankers and the freedom of international navigation, stressing the need to adhere to international conventions and laws regulating navigation throughout the world.
The Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia, last Monday, accused the “Ansar Allah” group of piracy and hijacking a ship flying the UAE flag, stressing that it was “carrying out a maritime mission from the Yemeni island of Socotra to the port of Jizan in southern Saudi Arabia.”
For its part, the “Ansar Allah” group announced the transfer of its Emirati cargo ship to the Yemeni port of Saleef.
In a press conference, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree showed pictures that he said belonged to the detained Emirati cargo ship, with weapons, armored vehicles and warships on board.
The military spokesman for the Houthis also warned that the group has the appropriate options to respond to any escalation by the Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia, adding, “Our appropriate options are on their way to becoming a reality, and everything we will take is within the framework of legitimate defense.”
