The Italian Coast Guard intervenes to rescue illegal immigrants after their boat sank

The Italian Coast Guard managed to rescue a number of illegal immigrants after their boat sank in the middle of the sea off the Italian coast, according to what was reported by Agence France-Presse earlier today.

 The agency quoted a local official on the island of Lampedusa as saying that the bodies of eight migrants, five men and three women, one of whom was pregnant, were found, while 42 survivors, including two pregnant women, whose nationalities were not yet known, were recovered.
