The Lebanese space scientist who believed in the existence of extraterrestrial life

Dr. Mustafa Shaheen, of Lebanese origin, of American nationality, is a scholar of Arab expatriates, and one of the most important scientific figures who contributed to her research, intellectual and administrative efforts in rewriting the sciences of astronomy, and achieving a knowledge revolution in the secrets of the earth and the universe. He obtained a doctorate in “fluid physics” in 1960 AD from the “University of Berkeley, which is considered one of the most important American universities, and when he was not more than twenty-five, he immediately joined the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) at NASA.
Dr. Shaheen played the main role as a researcher, designer, developer and analyst in all of NASA’s “remote sensing” experiments, and his research played an important role in studying the Earth’s temperature and monitoring the climate using satellites, and he is one of the believers in the existence of “sane life” outside Earth.
Dr. Shaheen was born in 1935 AD in the village of Umm al-Nabaa in Beirut, which he left for the US state of California to work for the NASA space agency, where he spent 15 years in the technical department of the agency, during which most of the unmanned robotic space flights were conducted.
In the period between 1975 and 1978, Shaheen headed the department for studying the meteorological conditions of the planets. Mathematical methods for measuring temperature and exploring the climate of the planets Earth, Venus, Mars and Jupiter. He also chaired the International Committee for the Study of the Role of Energy and Water in the Earth for 5 years.
From 1984 to 2001, Dr. Shaheen held the position of chief scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the JBL Laboratory, the largest laboratories of NASA and the most important space institutions in the world. During this period, the Magellan space probe was built and launched. He made a miraculous journey, covering a distance of 1300 billion km, and orbited around the sun until he reached the planet Venus and turned around it, and took the first known images in astronomy. 6 years, during which it carried out miraculous orbits around the planets, taking advantage of the force of attraction and thrust, until it reached Jupiter in 1996 AD.
Dr. Shaheen also chaired the highest scientific body for studying the water and energy cycle in nature, “GEOX”, which is responsible for analyzing data on satellites that monitor solar radiation, the movement of winds and clouds, sea and ocean levels, and the composition of the Earth’s atmosphere, as well as monitoring human activities that affect all of that. In addition to the “Aqua” project, a satellite for studying water and climate on Earth.
Dr. Shaheen believes in the existence of “another sane life” outside the planet, based on several justifications, the first of which is that the earth for the universe is like a drop in a large ocean. The Sun is only one of the billions of stars in the Milky Way galaxy, and the Milky Way is also one of the billions of galaxies in the universe, and therefore the belief that the Earth alone is able to provide the conditions for life is something that predicts the extent of the “arrogance” of the inhabitants of this universe. planet, he thought.
In this regard, he says: “Perhaps a simple pause at the scientific calculations conducted on this matter, which says that there are 400,000 civilizations similar to the civilization of the Earth in our galaxy alone is enough to erase this arrogant view,” and he continues: “If the age of the Earth has exceeded 3 billion For many years, while space technology is only 100 years old, it is not expected that humans have been able to create means of communication that can reach other sane civilizations in this universe.”
The Arab world believes that the conditions necessary for the establishment of life on Earth may be the same as those required for the emergence of life anywhere else in the universe, and then its development into the forms that exist on Earth at the present time.
In 2002, the world was surprised by the launch of the first artificial satellite that oversaw its design and set its mission, an Arab scientist, Dr. Shaheen, who chose the name “Aqua”, which means “water” in Latin, and the US space agency “NASA” agreed on the name that reflects the moon’s primary mission in collecting information. Comprehensive about the water cycle in nature, including water evaporating from the oceans, water vapor in the atmosphere, clouds, rain, rivers, snow, soil moisture, and the ice sheet covering the Earth.
Arab scholar Mustafa Shaheen passed away in 2011.
