The UAE announces its position on Sudan

Today, Monday, the United Arab Emirates welcomed the signing of the political agreement to complete the transitional phase in Sudan.
In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed the UAE’s confidence in the Sudanese people’s ability to overcome the current stage in light of the constitutional, legal and political consensus that governs the transitional period, according to the Emirates News Agency (WAM).

The ministry stressed the UAE’s keenness to deepen and expand cooperation with brotherly Sudan and push it forward in all fields, in order to strengthen the strong relations between the two countries and peoples.

She expressed the UAE’s support for Sudan and its standing by its brotherly people to achieve their aspirations for stability and development.

Yesterday, Sunday, the head of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, and the Transitional Council of Ministers, Abdullah Hamdok, signed a new political agreement requiring Hamdok to return to his post about a month after his dismissal.

Sudanese state television broadcast the signing ceremony of the political agreement, which was read by a speaker during the ceremony.

The new political agreement in Sudan stipulated “cancelling the decision of the Sudanese army commander to dismiss the former prime minister, Abdullah Hamdok,” and emphasizing “the need to work together (the civilian and military components) to reach an elected civilian government and achieve this through political unity.”

The agreement also included that “the constitutional document of 2019 and the amendment of 2020 be the basic reference for completing the transitional period,” emphasizing that “the amendment of the constitutional document shall be by consensus in a way that achieves and guarantees comprehensive political participation for all components of society, except for the dissolved National Congress Party.”

The texts of the agreement also included “the release of all political detainees”, in addition to “emphasizing the building of a unified national army.”
