The World Health Organization warns of a corona tsunami that occurred last week

Today, Thursday, the World Health Organization announced that the rate of infection with the emerging coronavirus around the world has increased by 71% during the past seven days.
According to the organization, such a jump in the weekly number of infections amounts to a “tsunami” with the spread of the new “Omicron” mutant around the world.
“Last week, we recorded the largest number of Covid-19 infections so far since the outbreak of the pandemic,” said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, today, Thursday.
He added that the organization is certain that these numbers are underestimated due to the backlog of tests during the end of the year holidays.
In its weekly report on the pandemic, the organization indicated that the weekly number of infected cases was “slightly less” than 9.5 million new cases, and more than 41,000 new deaths were reported during the past week.
