Explosion in Thessaloniki, Northern Greece, Amid Suspicions of Deliberate Act

An explosion occurred early Saturday in the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki, causing injuries to two individuals and significant material damage. According to Greek police, the blast took place at the entrance of a residential building on Makedonomachon Street.

Preliminary reports indicate that the explosion severely damaged the building’s ground floor and affected at least four adjacent buildings. Windows and doors of several apartments were shattered, and six parked cars were also damaged. Residents evacuated their homes as authorities launched a large-scale security response, and police initiated an investigation into the incident.

Authorities noted that one of the building’s residents is a senior employee at Thessaloniki Prison, prompting investigators to consider the possibility of a targeted or terrorist act. The Greek police confirmed that all scenarios are being examined as the investigation continues to identify the perpetrators and determine potential motives.
