Trump Expresses Desire to Meet North Korean Leader: “I Have an Excellent Relationship with Kim Jong Un
Former U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his desire to meet and engage in dialogue with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, emphasizing their good relationship.
Speaking to reporters, Trump recalled their past interactions, stating, “I had an excellent relationship with Kim Jong Un.” He mentioned their meetings in Singapore and Vietnam, affirming that their relationship remains strong.
Trump expressed a strong desire to meet his North Korean counterpart, highlighting the country’s significant nuclear power. However, he admitted that he could not predict what might happen between them in the future, saying that time would reveal the course of events.
He also claimed that if he had not been elected as U.S. president in 2016, a nuclear war with North Korea might have broken out. He added that Kim Jong Un had expected a nuclear conflict had Hillary Clinton won the presidency instead of him.
It is worth noting that after his first summit with Kim in Singapore in 2018, Trump remarked that he and the North Korean leader had “fallen in love.” However, their second summit in 2019 collapsed, after which North Korea intensified its weapons development efforts and rejected U.S. offers for talks.
