Trump Sparks a Crisis Between the United States and Denmark… Here’s Why

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen responded to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s announcement of America’s interest in purchasing Greenland by stating that it is not for sale.

This follows several statements made by Trump in recent months regarding his desire to buy the world’s largest island, which enjoys administrative autonomy under Denmark. Trump has expressed his willingness to pay for Greenland and annex it to the United States.

Frederiksen emphasized that while Denmark values cooperation with the United States, Greenland belongs to its people and is not for sale.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump’s son is currently on a private visit to Nuuk, Greenland’s capital, since Tuesday. Although he has assured that no meetings with officials are planned and that the trip is solely to visit certain areas and landmarks, he also mentioned that this is a very long trip to Greenland.

Greenland, which spans a vast area with a small population, holds a wealth of mineral, oil, and natural gas resources. Last month, Donald Trump stated that acquiring Greenland is an absolute necessity.
