Turkey: Expert Calls for Islamic Economic and Military Alliance as Deterrent

Turkish political analyst Ramazan Yashar stated that forming a military and economic alliance including Turkey, Iran, Egypt, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia could serve as a deterrent to Israel. Yashar added that Turkey alone cannot confront Israel, but the combined strength of Islamic countries, supported by the economic resources of the Gulf states, could pressure the United States to limit Israel’s actions.

Yashar noted that the idea of creating a military and economic union among Islamic countries, supported by Turkey for several years, is now gaining backing from other regional states. He also highlighted statements from Iranian President Masoud Bzhehkyan and the closing remarks of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan regarding the development of joint security systems, intelligence sharing, and crisis management, reflecting increasing coordination among some Islamic countries.

The Turkish analyst emphasized the importance of establishing an institutional structure for the union to ensure the alliance’s effectiveness. Previously, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani called for treating any Israeli attack on an Arab or Islamic country as a collective threat, while Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif proposed creating an Arab-Islamic task force to address Israel’s expansionist ambitions.
