Turkish Disinformation Center Denies Israeli Media Claims, Former President Abdullah Gül Sends a Message to Authorities

Turkish authorities have denied the claims circulated by Israeli media regarding France and the United Kingdom asking their citizens to leave Turkey amid protests.

The Turkish Directorate of Communications’ Disinformation Combat Center issued a statement through the military spokesperson, confirming that the claims were untrue, stating that neither France nor the UK had contacted their citizens in Turkey. The statement also mentioned that Turkish security forces are ensuring stability and security amid ongoing protests in several provinces, triggered by the trial of Istanbul’s Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.

Protests erupted following İmamoğlu’s arrest, with the Turkish Ministry of the Interior announcing the detention of 343 individuals across nine Turkish cities, including Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan commented on the incident, accusing the opposition party of attempting to cover up its mistakes with “theatrics.”

Meanwhile, former Turkish President Abdullah Gül expressed concern over the escalation of tensions following İmamoğlu’s arrest, stressing the need to avoid political unrest. Gül noted that repeating mistakes against İmamoğlu would not benefit any party and urged for a shift away from policies of escalation and towards political solutions. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining justice and citizens’ rights, warning that deteriorating political conditions could affect Turkey’s economic and international future.

These developments come at a critical time, as protests continue against İmamoğlu’s arrest, with heavy security measures in place in major cities.
