UAE Foreign Minister in Turkey

UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed visited the earthquake-affected areas in southern Turkey.

The official Emirates News Agency (WAM) said that the minister inspected the earthquake-affected areas in the state of Kahramanmaraş, and the headquarters of the Emirati search and rescue team in the state.

During the visit, UAE Foreign Minister Suleiman Soylu met with Turkish Interior Minister Suleiman Soylu, in Kahramanmaraş, and assured him that his country would stand by the Turkish people and provide the required support and assistance for the relief of those affected by this humanitarian catastrophe.

Abdullah bin Zayed offered condolences to the Turkish people and the families of the earthquake victims, expressing his wish for a speedy recovery for the injured.

Earlier in the day, an Emirati military plane arrived at Adana Airport, loaded with aid for those affected by the earthquake in Turkey and Syria.

According to the Turkish Anasoul Agency, immediately after the earthquake occurred, the UAE rushed to provide 97 tons of food, 20 tons of medical supplies and 696 tents for those affected by the earthquake in Turkey and Syria as part of Operation “The Gallant Knight 2”.

Also, earlier on Sunday, Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad received the UAE Foreign Minister, in the first visit by a prominent foreign official, in the wake of the devastating earthquake that struck the north of the country last week.

The UAE has also contributed a regiment of cargo planes that have been sent to Syria and Turkey, amounting to 36 planes, so far, in parallel with the completion of the Emirati search and rescue teams, their efforts to rescue those trapped under the rubble, using specific and specialized devices and equipment in this field.

It is noteworthy that the UAE President, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, ordered, last Tuesday, to provide 100 million US dollars for relief to those affected by the devastating earthquake that struck Syria and Turkey.

The initiative of Ibn Zayed also included providing 50 million dollars to the Syrian people affected by the earthquakes, in addition to another 50 million dollars to the Turkish people, according to the Emirates News Agency, WAM.
