Abu Dhabi Fund Injects $2.6B Into Jordan Development

UAE investments in Jordan drive strategic development projects
The United Arab Emirates continues to strengthen its development cooperation with Jordan through financing strategic projects targeting key sectors, including healthcare, energy, water, infrastructure, and food security, as part of a long-standing economic and development partnership between the two countries.
Long-standing development partnership
Abu Dhabi Fund for Development announced that its total financing for development projects in Jordan has exceeded $2.6 billion since 1974, as part of efforts to support economic growth and essential services across the Kingdom. Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi said relations between the UAE and Jordan span decades, noting that the fund has contributed to financing strategic projects supporting growth in several vital sectors.
Al Suwaidi added that the UAE’s contribution within the Gulf Development Fund program reached AED 4.6 billion, allocated to healthcare, energy, water, transport, food security, and education sectors, while nearly AED 4.459 billion had been disbursed by the end of 2016.
Healthcare and energy projects
In the healthcare sector, the fund highlighted the launch of the Jordan Digital Health Center, known as the “Virtual Hospital,” in 2024. The project aims to unify digital health records and connect hospitals and healthcare centers under a $100 million digital transformation initiative in cooperation with Presight.
In the energy sector, the fund contributed to supporting the Sheikh Zayed Solar Power Complex, which generates 103 megawatts of electricity and supplies power to more than 50,000 homes, supporting Jordan’s plans to expand renewable energy use and reduce dependence on imported energy sources.
The funded projects also included the Amman Development Corridor, which aims to improve connectivity between the Jordanian capital and governorates while enhancing transportation and logistics services.
Supporting food security
As part of efforts to strengthen food security, the fund financed the expansion of grain silos in Al-Juwaideh and Aqaba at a cost of AED 258.7 million, increasing grain storage capacity and supporting Jordan’s national food security strategy. In the water sector, the fund supported the construction of Kafranja Dam, with a storage capacity of 7 million cubic meters, aimed at providing drinking and irrigation water while helping reduce flood risks and improve water resource management.
Boosting trade cooperation
In terms of trade cooperation, Abu Dhabi Exports Office announced the signing of a financing agreement with “Capital Bank” worth AED 73.4 million to support trade exchange and enhance Emirati exports to the Jordanian market.
According to the fund, these projects reflect continued economic and development cooperation between the UAE and Jordan, focusing on infrastructure, essential services, and sustainable development across the Kingdom.
