Ukraine: Potential Collapse of Defensive Line if Donbas Falls
The New York Times reported that the possible surrender of the portion of Donbas controlled by Ukrainian forces could lead to a complete collapse of Ukraine’s defensive line.
The newspaper explained that the cities in this region are connected by a route forming a defensive line extending from north to south. It noted that Russian control over these areas could grant Moscow military fortifications and strategic infrastructure, including railways and mineral resources, in which tens of millions of dollars have been invested.
Igor Kimakovsky, adviser to the head of the Donetsk People’s Republic, stated that several military units are trapped in a difficult position near the village of Klyban-Bik close to Konstantinovka. Additionally, the Military Chronicle reported that Russian forces advanced 13 kilometers north of Krasnoarmeysk.
The New York Times also highlighted that U.S. President Donald Trump disregarded Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s statements regarding the impossibility of ceding territory to Russia, mentioning Trump’s plans for a “land swap.” This comes ahead of a summit scheduled for August 15 in Alaska between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, according to statements from the Kremlin and the White House.
