Wang Yi Warns of U.S. Forces Containing China, Affirms Position on Ukraine
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi warned of forces in the United States seeking to suppress China’s development, emphasizing that Beijing prefers a cooperative path in relations with Washington.
Two Paths for China-U.S. Relations
During the Munich Security Conference, Wang Yi said some U.S. actors attempt to attack China and tarnish its image. He added that China-U.S. relations face a crossroads, with the potential for either cooperative engagement or comprehensive confrontation, including severed relations and disrupted supply chains.
Wang Yi noted that the optimal scenario for both sides and the world is for the United States to adopt a rational and pragmatic policy toward China, working together within a cooperative framework. He emphasized that Beijing seeks this path to avoid escalation.
China’s Position on Ukraine
Wang Yi confirmed that China maintains the stability of its policies and that its stance on respecting Ukraine’s sovereignty has not changed. He stated that China adheres to the four principles outlined by President Xi Jinping, which include respecting state sovereignty and territorial integrity, considering all parties’ legitimate security concerns, supporting efforts for a peaceful resolution, and upholding the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter.
The minister added that China, as a major country, fully implements its announced policies, will continue to honor its commitments, and remains a force for peace, stressing that Beijing continues to support political and security stability at the international level.
