We’ve Crossed the Line”: Israeli Air Force Officer Refuses to Participate in the War on Gaza

The Israeli military has dismissed an Air Force officer after he refused to participate in the attack on Gaza, declaring: “We have crossed the line.”
In a brief statement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the dismissal of reserve officer Alon Gur from service, just hours after he published a personal statement in which he refused to report for reserve duty. He cited a loss of trust in the integrity of the motives behind the war in Gaza.
Gur, an officer in the Israeli Air Force, posted on social media announcing the end of his military service after 16 years of commitment.
In his post, Gur explained that he had no alternative but to serve in the Israeli military, as he dedicated his life to building a future for himself and his family.
The 43-year-old officer noted that he had served in the reserves for 16 years and, despite disagreeing with successive Israeli governments, he had always believed in the military institution and its objectives.
He stated that he was called up for service immediately after the October 7 attack and performed his military duties without hesitation, considering it necessary for Israel’s security. However, he described the current war on Gaza as unjustified violence. When he met with his unit commander following the Israeli army’s announcement of the war’s resumption, he informed him that he would not return to service or participate in the conflict, emphasizing that Israel had crossed the line.
Gur also criticized Israeli political and military leadership, accusing them of deliberately abandoning their citizens and prioritizing cold political calculations over human lives. He wrote: “When the government eliminates its own guards by all possible means, and when the king becomes more important than the kingdom, everything comes to an end.”
In conclusion, Gur affirmed that he would continue his struggle nonviolently for what he described as “a better Israel.”
Gur’s decision comes amid growing tensions within the Israeli military, as some soldiers and reservists increasingly criticize the government’s policies regarding the war in Gaza.
