Sudan Declares White Nile State Fully Cleared of Rapid Support Forces
Sudanese authorities have officially declared White Nile State, located in the southern part of the country, completely cleared of Rapid Support Forces (RSF), following the army’s recapture of the Um Ruwaba locality in the state’s northwestern region. The development marks a significant shift in the ongoing conflict that has gripped the nation.
According to the Sudan News Agency (SUNA), White Nile State Governor Qamar al-Din Mohamed Fadl congratulated the armed forces and local residents on the liberation of Um Ruwaba from RSF control, affirming that the entire state is now free of the paramilitary presence.
The announcement comes just hours after the Sudanese army confirmed its full control over the capital state of Khartoum, as part of a broader military campaign aimed at reclaiming key cities and strategic locations seized by the RSF since the outbreak of hostilities in April 2023.
Governor Fadl noted that the liberation of Um Ruwaba coincided with a significant advance by the armed forces, supported by security agencies and joint units, on multiple battlefronts across the country—signaling a potential shift in the balance of power in favor of the Sudanese army.
Conflict Eruption in Sudan
The conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF erupted in April 2023, following escalating tensions over the integration of the paramilitary force into the national army. The ensuing violence has led to one of the worst humanitarian and political crises in Sudan’s modern history, leaving thousands dead and displacing millions both internally and across borders.
