The World Health Organization is preparing to hold an emergency meeting on monkeypox next week.
The meeting aims to assess whether monkeypox represents a public health emergency of international concern.
The move comes after more than 1,600 confirmed cases of monkeypox were reported to the World Health Organization and documented in 39 countries.
