Will Rescue Teams Be Able to Reach the Stranded Chinese Ship?

Rescue teams have begun installing barriers around the Chinese ship An Yang 2, which ran aground near the coast of Sakhalin, Russia, on Saturday, February 8, to prevent an oil spill. The ship carries 700 tons of fuel, 50 tons of diesel, and approximately 1,000 tons of coal, along with 20 crew members on board.

Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations announced that the Chinese cargo ship An Yang 2 ran aground off the coast of the Nevelsk region on Sakhalin Island on February 8 due to worsening weather conditions while attempting to sail away from its anchorage. However, the vessel did not send a distress signal before becoming stranded.

The governor of the Sakhalin region, Valery Limarenko, stated that rescue teams and divers have been unable to reach the ship due to the severe maritime storm. In a post on Telegram, he confirmed that he is closely monitoring the situation and maintaining direct contact with the crew. He emphasized that rescue teams and divers are currently unable to approach the vessel due to extreme weather conditions.
