Zelensky Confirms Upcoming Talks with Trump
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Monday that he will hold a Zelensky Trump meeting in Washington this Friday to discuss his country’s air defense capabilities and long-range strike potential amid the ongoing war with Russia.
Speaking to reporters in Kyiv, Zelensky revealed that he had presented Trump with “a clear vision” regarding the number of U.S.-made Tomahawk missiles Ukraine needs to strengthen its military operations. He added that the two leaders will go into more detail during their upcoming meeting in the U.S. capital.
High-Level Diplomatic Preparations Underway
A senior Ukrainian delegation, led by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, is expected to arrive in Washington ahead of the Zelensky Trump meeting to lay the groundwork for the discussions between the two presidents.
According to Ukrainian media, Zelensky and Trump already spoke over the weekend — on Saturday and Sunday — in preparation for the summit, which is anticipated to focus on defense cooperation and U.S. military support to Kyiv.
Tomahawk Missiles at the Center of Debate
President Zelensky has been pressing Washington to provide Tomahawk long-range missiles, capable of reaching targets deep inside Russian territory. He emphasized that Ukraine would use the missiles only against legitimate military targets.
Moscow, however, warned that such a move would represent a dangerous escalation, heightening tensions between the two countries. Trump confirmed that he is considering Ukraine’s request but also hinted that he might discuss the issue directly with Russian President Vladimir Putin before making any final decision.
