Akkuyu Nuclear Plant Confirms Global Quality Standards for Operational Water

 

Akkuyu Nuclear JSC announced that the water chemistry laboratory at the Akkuyu Nuclear Plant passed independent tests, receiving international recognition as a “laboratory of leadership and expertise.” The laboratory conducts precise analyses of water samples used during plant operations and equipment cleaning processes during unit commissioning.

Independent Quality Assessment

Sergey Butskikh, CEO of Akkuyu Nuclear, stated that water is a strategic element for the plant. He emphasized that the independent evaluation of the water chemistry laboratory reflects the establishment of a quality control system aligned with global best practices and reinforces a safety culture from the preparation phase of plant operations.

Step Toward International Accreditation

The company indicated that the laboratory’s success in independent testing represents a critical step toward obtaining international accreditation according to global environmental and operational standards. This recognition enhances operational reliability and confirms the plant’s commitment to international standards.

Akkuyu Nuclear Plant

The Akkuyu Nuclear Plant is Turkey’s first nuclear power station using Russian technology. It consists of four units equipped with VVER-1200 reactors, each with a capacity of 1,200 MW. The Turkish Energy Minister reported that the first unit is 99% complete, with final commissioning preparations underway. The project is implemented under a historic “Build-Own-Operate” model in the nuclear industry.
