Al-Sharaa Appoints a Non-Syrian Brigadier General to Lead the Syrian Army!

The Jordanian news agency Ammon confirmed the promotion of Abdul Rahman Hussein Al-Khatib, a Jordanian citizen of Palestinian origin, to the rank of brigadier general as part of a list that includes five other officers in the leadership of the Syrian army. According to the agency, this decision suggests the formation of a Shura Council that may not be entirely Syrian.

Ammon clarified that Al-Khatib, known by his alias “Abu Hussein Al-Urduni,” arrived in Syria in 2013 influenced by Salafi jihadist ideology. The agency added that his strong loyalty to Ahmed Al-Sharaa facilitated his rapid rise within Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, where he was tasked with addressing factional issues within the Tripartite Military Council.

It is noteworthy that Ahmed Al-Sharaa issued a decision promoting several military officers, including Defense Minister Marhaf Ahmed Abu Qasra and Ali Nour Al-Din Al-Nassan, to higher ranks as part of significant leadership changes.
