Al-Thawra Oil Complex: Syrian Army Resumes Control over Oil and Gas Fields in Eastern Euphrates
The Syrian Petroleum Company announced that the strategic Al-Thawra Oil Complex, located in the southwestern countryside of Raqqa Governorate, came entirely under the control of the Syrian Army as of the end of Saturday, January 17, 2026. The company noted that the complex serves as an administrative and logistical hub linking a group of fields across the Syrian desert.
The company indicated that Al-Thawra Complex includes affiliated fields such as Wadi Ubaid, Al-Bishri, and Safyan fields, stressing the importance of handing over the fields with all their equipment intact and preserving their infrastructure to ensure continuous production and supply to distribution stations.
The company confirmed that its technical teams are ready to fully manage the fields in the eastern Euphrates and resume production once military control stabilizes, following approved technical and operational frameworks, to guarantee the necessary supply for the national energy sector.
This announcement follows reports from the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) that Syrian forces have gained control over several major oil and gas fields in Deir Ezzor Governorate in northeastern Syria, following clashes with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). These fields include Omar, Tanak, Conoco, Jafra, Azbah, as well as Tayyana, Jeedo, Malh, and Azraq fields.
