Ali Khamenei: Iran’s Affairs Should Not Be Tied to the Outcome of Nuclear Talks
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei stated that the ongoing negotiations between Tehran and Washington in Muscat, Oman, “may lead to results—or may not.” He added that Iran is “neither overly optimistic nor overly pessimistic” about the talks.
In a meeting with Iranian officials, Khamenei urged them not to tie the country’s issues to the Muscat negotiations, emphasizing that the first step had been taken well.
He stressed the importance of not repeating the mistakes of the previous nuclear agreement, saying: “The country must not be held hostage to the outcome of these talks. We must continue our efforts to achieve our goals with even greater urgency.” He added, “Despite our mistrust of the other side, we trust in our own capabilities.”
Iran–U.S. Talks in Muscat
It is worth noting that Muscat, the capital of Oman, hosted indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States last Saturday. The Iranian delegation was led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, while the American side was headed by President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff. The discussions focused on the nuclear file and ways to reduce tensions between the two countries.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced on Monday that the second round of talks will be held in Muscat on April 19. Spokesman Esmail Baqi stated that the upcoming round will follow the same indirect format. The ministry had previously described the talks as constructive, though no further details were disclosed.
