Deaths and Injuries in Palmyra: Details of an Attack on the US Military in Palmyra
Two Syrian officials told Reuters that an attack on the US military in Palmyra took place earlier on Saturday during a joint patrol involving Syrian forces and US-led coalition troops fighting Islamic State, resulting in multiple injuries.

According to the officials, the military convoy came under gunfire while passing near the city of Palmyra in central Syria. The US Department of Defense has not yet issued any official comment regarding the incident.
Syria’s state news agency SANA quoted a security source as saying that the attack on the US military in Palmyra targeted Syrian security forces and US troops during a joint field patrol in the surrounding area.
Injuries and Heightened Security Measures
The security source said the attack wounded two members of the Syrian security forces as well as several US personnel. The gunman was killed, while no further details have been released regarding the motive behind the attack or those responsible.
The attack on the US military in Palmyra also led to a temporary closure of traffic on the Deir Ezzor–Damascus international highway, accompanied by heavy aerial activity over the area as security measures were tightened.
Casualties Evacuated to Al-Tanf Base
The source added that US helicopters intervened following the attack on the US military in Palmyra, evacuating the wounded to the Al-Tanf military base. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the incident.

Social media accounts have circulated differing narratives regarding the incident. Some claimed that the attacker was an escort accompanying a security official in Syria’s new military structure, acting for reasons that remain unclear. Other reports suggested possible links to Islamic State.
However, no official confirmation has been issued so far regarding the identity or affiliation of the attacker.
