Attempts to Assassinate Sisi: Egyptian Media Reveals Threat Details
Egyptian journalist Ahmed Moussa, in his program “Ala Mas’ouliyati” on Sada El-Balad channel, reported that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi was subjected to several assassination attempts over the past years. Moussa stated that these attempts were organized and directly targeted the president’s life, noting that Egyptian security forces successfully foiled them before execution.
Moussa explained that some assassination attempts originated from domestic sources, while others involved foreign actors, without specifying the names of these entities or the timing of each attempt. He added that the president faces ongoing threats due to his positions in maintaining Egypt’s stability, noting that details of some of these attempts were included in his recent book “Secrets,” based on confessions from involved individuals.
Since Sisi assumed power in 2014, Egypt has witnessed a wave of terrorist attacks, particularly in the Sinai Peninsula, where the group “Ansar Beit al-Maqdis,” later known as Sinai Province affiliated with ISIS, carried out multiple operations targeting the army, police, and civilians. In 2017, the Egyptian presidency announced the foiling of a major assassination attempt planned by a terrorist organization.
Previous media and security reports highlighted failed assassination attempts targeting the president during his visits to Sinai and other sensitive locations. The arrest of individuals involved in planning these operations led to their prevention. The president has reiterated in subsequent statements that he continues to face ongoing threats, affirming the role of security forces in countering any risks to his life and the country’s stability.
