Autonomous Administration warns of worsening humanitarian conditions in Sheikh Maqsoud, Aleppo

The Autonomous Administration of Northeast Syria warned of escalating violence in the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood of Aleppo, holding the Syrian government responsible for the ongoing shelling of “Khaled Fajr” hospital and calling on United Nations agencies for immediate intervention to evacuate the injured. The administration stated in a press release that the targeting constitutes a violation of international law and increases humanitarian and health risks for civilians and hospital staff, including members of the Internal Security Forces (“Asayish”).

Co-Chair of the Foreign Relations Office of the Autonomous Administration, Ilham Ahmed, said that continued shelling could worsen the humanitarian crisis, warning that hundreds of injured individuals are inside the hospital and calling on the international community to prevent any potential massacres.

Meanwhile, France called on all parties to adhere to a ceasefire to protect civilians and maintain stability. The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Paris is coordinating with the United States to encourage de-escalation. Additionally, a phone call took place yesterday between French President Emmanuel Macron and Syrian President Ahmad Al-Shara to reaffirm Syria’s unity and promote dialogue between transitional authorities and the Syrian Democratic Forces, according to the March 10 agreement.
